Sat 13th February - Sun 14th February
11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Following the success of her last workshop Jessie Keenan will be giving another 2 day contemporary dance workshop for adult beginners on the 13th and 14th of February, from 11am – 4pm. These workshops are open to anyone who is interested in becoming more in tune with their body, who would like to enjoy more of a sense of control in their movement, and who would like to get a little fitter, stronger, more flexible and healthier whilst having fun.
Each day will begin with a morning warm up class to wake up and engage the whole body, including core exercises and stretching. This will then build to a number of technique focused movement phrases where qualities such as weight transfer, core stability, grounding, alignment and balance will be introduced. In the second half of the day these techniques will then be applied to a number of creative tasks looking at weight sharing, movement trust exercises, expanding awareness of the body in space and exploring the body’s creative movement potential.
Jessie Keenan is a Dublin-based dance artist. She holds a Masters in Contemporary Dance from the University of Limerick. Her current practice explores site-responsive dance within non-performance spaces, with a particular focus on collaborative inter-disciplinary processes. In March 2015 she was commissioned by Dance Ireland to create Low_lying, a collaborative work with visual artist Ciara McKeon and musician Robbie Blake for Mind Your Step (funded by Creative Europe & Arts Council Ireland). Earlier this year she received a Professional Development Award from Cavan Co. Council, and a residency in Shawbrook Co. Longford, to develop an ongoing work with theatre director Sarah Baxter. In September she received a bursary from Dance Ireland to take part in The Next Stage 2015, an artist development strand of Dublin Theatre Festival. Jessie is currently choreographing a new solo work commissioned by the Dublin Dance Festival/GPO Witness History Public Art Commission for Embodied April 2016.
