Fri 3rd June - Sat 25th June
For his new show in Townhall Cavan, ‘Untitled (Black on Grey)’, Liam Crichton will create an experimental new installation. Based on the Rothko painting of the same name, the work follows the artist’s developing research into contemporary ideas surrounding the void and the sublime, and is in response to the built environment of Cavan Town and County.
Crichton creates large-scale sculptures and installations that investigate physical space. Containing references to and elements of a post-minimal realisation, his aesthetically-driven and predominately site-specific work is often characterised by a sense of dichotomy that challenges traditional perceptions and cultural surroundings.
In an abstract systematic, reductive process, he breaks down the impression of the familiar to its bare essence. He operates through a non-linear, conceptual and formal vernacular sculptural praxis. Crichton has recently exhibited in Edinburgh, London, Philadelphia, Dublin, and Belfast.
The exhibition opens on Thursday, 2nd June and runs from Friday, 3rd to Saturday, 25th June, from 11am-5pm, Wednesday to Saturday.
